What Glaze To Use On Cabinets Painted With Oil Based Paint?

Glazed Kitchen Cabinets
I recently had my kitchen cabinets painted Benjamin Moore Goldtone.  It was done with an oil based paint.

I'm not happy with the results, so I was hoping to have the cabinets glazed.  My painted is not sure he can glaze over oil based paint.

If he can, he is not sure of any products to use.  What to use on cabinets painted with oil based paint?

Can you recommend the "high quality sealer" you refer to in another question?

Thank you.  Jill

Hi Jill…

Yes you can glaze over oil based painted cabinets… but you will have to use an oil based glaze or stain instead of a faux glaze that is water based.

You must sand the cabinets to degloss them…  meaning the shine must go away.

The glaze is then applied and wiped off or dry brushed to create texture and interest in you cabinets.

The high quality oil based sealer that I refer to is  MINWAX POLYSHADES GLOSS POLYURETHANE
