How do you town down bright yellow paint to a soft brown color?
Hello Debra.. I have a bright yellow wall I want to tone down to a creamy soft brown with slight yellow undertones. The yellow color is from Lowes It is called (TOASTED WHEAT). Can I do this with a Brown Glaze? Thank You Jo Ann
Hi Jo Ann… this color looks like a warm peach on the computer… but I'm sure it's a bright yellow as you describe it.
Changing a color to a creamy soft brown with yellow undertones sounds like you are going for a Tuscan feel.
A faux finish over the yellow will create a rustic look to the walls. It is going to have yellow undertones… just because you are using glaze instead of paint to cover the yellow.
When you want anything creamy… you are going to have to use a white based color in the glaze… not just tint the glaze. This project will have to done with many layers of faux finish other wise you are going to have a messy finish.
Without knowing exactly the color you are striving for… I really can't be of more more help. I would caution you to try a sample board before trying to tone down bright yellow paint to a soft brown color. You will need to experiment to get the results you are after.

Hi there,
We had half of our dining room, the entire kitchen and the laundry room painted sweet lemon yellow. This is a very strong bright yellow that just doesn’t work the way we thought unless we were going to convert the house into a preschool!!! Barring the obvious start from scratch approach, are there some color choices in a paint or glaze that could tone it down and warm it up?
