Sponge Painting | This Old Faux Painting Style Is Outdated | Video

by THAT Painter Lady

Okay… for those of that still think sponge painting is a work of art, I found a video for your to watch. The video covers the basic technique. You won’t learn every detail of sponge painting, but it is a good starting point.

For those of you that are gaging at the thought of someone actually painting with a sea sponge on their walls… I agree!  Yuck.  But, their are still some beginners out in the world that think this style of faux painting is very hip.

Click on the pictures below to get more information about sea sponges and painting with a sponge.

We bought a home with a sponge painted bath in pinks, blues greens and yellow. Ahhhh!!!! The paint is very heavy (raised) and I’m thinking I’m going to have to sand the walls before I prime it?
It’s on my projects list.

UGH!!!! I have a future mother in law who painted her sons kitchen Hunter Green but did it in the “sponge” style with white walls about five years ago. It looked like mold all over the walls. She thinks I’m out of my mind and dont know what I’m talking about. I told her it’s hidious (I did say in a polite way believe it or not… and basically said it’s a very outdated look.) She told me I was the “only one” who feels that way. Everyone else she spoke to liked it. She made me feel as though I’m in the Twilight Zone.
Anyway, the ironic thing is… she and my fiance (deffinitely – without a doubt) wants my fiance and I to move as soon as possible (the area sucks and the house sucks) but this woman doesn’t like the idea of changing the dramatic kitchen wall color (luckily its the only crazy paint job in the house! :) I have a feeling she wont like me changing the 1970s lighting fixtures but I’m in the process of doing that as well. And yes, my fiance Does own the house in full… his mom just likes to baby him and tell him what to do at times. I just wish she could stick to decorating her Own house in stupid colors. Also I do LOVE color but in a tastful way. On the same token, I dont like color so much when you’re trying to sell your house to the first schmuck who’s willing to sign on the dotted line. ;o)
