This is such a cute idea! This reader wants to decorate her kids room in pink French poodles. Now at first I was thinking black and white… with pink and poodles. But after I read how old the girls are… I am not so sure how much black I would suggest.
Here is her question:
Hello Debra, I just purchased & dressed my girls beds in striped bedspreads from eBay.
Fyi, I have 2 girls that share a room. Â They are 3 & 7 & just love the “Paris” theme!!
We have chair rail molding in the room & I saw a precious wallpaper pattern & I was thinking of doing that on the bottom & a pastel pink on top but have no clue if the wallpaper is too much…it’s quite simple, my friends tell me “NO PAPER”…but check it out! Â It is precious…it has some funny poodles hanging around paris, at a cafe table, the Eiffel Tower & Arc de Triumph, it is funny …!
You may have seen the bedding set on Devine Design last year, that is where I first saw it. Â I’m so stuck & want to paper, just don’ t know if it is too much with the stripe of the bedding. Â Thanks, you really do amazing things!!!! Â I’m a big fan…! Â =) Â Karen in Bolton, MA
The paper Karen found has been discontinued.
 I found a fantastic replacement!

I never did get to see a picture of the bedspreads… but she did say they were striped. So the question is:
Is it okay to use stripes and patterns in the same room?
First… we know without a doubt that Karen is in love with this wallpaper and really wants to us it in her girls room.
We also know that along with her friends… that Debra (that’s me) doesn’t ever recommend wallpaper. It gets really shabby looking in a kids room and I hate the thought of stripping wallpaper.
So I am in a quandary… what should the answer be?
Well… You all know how I love paint… so of course I would suggest she use the wallpaper as a guide to paint some of these cute poodles on the walls.
But… if you don’t want to tackle that… then I would suggest getting a roll of this paper and cutting out sections that could be framed with pink and black frames.
Then I would paint the bottom part of the wall, under the chair rail with pink and white stripes. And then… I would do a tiny stripe on each line where the colors meet… in black. I might even go so far as to suggest painting the chair rail black.
This should create a nice soft pattern in the room without being overwhelming.
I found this cute pre-pasted wall mural. It’s 3′ wide and 7.5′ tall. Makes a statement and it’s easy to strip off when your “over the poodle phase”.
