Painting Techniques Colorwashing With Same Color

by THAT Painter Lady

Colowashing is an easy painting technique, but it can be frustrating. If you are using two colors that are very similar it will look like the painting techniques colorwashing with the same color.

Dear Debra, hello, I love your news letters.

I was wondering if I could ask a question.  If you have the time, I know you are busy,  maybe you could give me a tip or two on colorwashing.

My question is, when using two colors at once for the rubbed color affect, my colors, no matter how many shades difference, seem to blend together as one color.

Example, if I used a light green and a dark green, it seems to show just one green.  They just don't look colorwashed, but rather look like I ragged or sponged one color on the wall.

I hope you can help me.  Thank you.Teresa

I know this is a frustration that happens to us all… but can be avoided with the application of the paint. The colors are blending because you are two aggressive with your technique.

I've included a video to show you what I mean… this gal uses a light touch. You don't need the expensive brushes and fancy glazes… just watch her feather light touch.

My other recommendation… as always… is use a Woolie Pad. You will never go wrong with this simple inexpensive tool.
