Kim Anderson Prints For Wall Color Inspiration

Kim Anderson Prints For InspirationOh Yea…. I love to help all of you pick colors.

Amazingly enough, it's easier to pick colors for others that for me to choose what to paint in my own home. :)

I got an email about an hour ago from Bev that I had to share. She is having a color meltdown and needs help with her color selection.

Here is the question:

I hear you are the Lady to ask….maybe you can help me find my life again, before I go nuts mixing paint.

I have one textured wall that is a redish-maroonish color and I was thinking of trying to faux the other 3 textured walls in a light golden tan color using the Woolie .

Can you tell me what colors I would use to achieve this color.  Also do you think that the golden tan color would go with the accent wall.  If not what color would you suggest?

I was wanting to hang Kim Anderson' prints in black frames around the room. I would appreciate any advice… I am going nuts trying different colors on a practice board… Help!!!  Please… Bev

First of all… in case you don't know what a Kim Anderson Print looks like… here is a sample.  So cool!

The sepia tones mixed with the brick/tomato read and gold are enchanting. Painting your walls with these rich tones will make the room feel warm and cozy.
One wall of Bev's room is already painted a reddish maroon color.  Which could be a problem with these prints. If the red color has a blue tint… like maroon instead of an orange tint like tomato red.

Maroon will look great with the right gold, but it will be off with these prints hanging in the room.  The key is to get the red as close to the red in the prints and the gold as close as well.

One of the reasons we love these Kim Anderson prints is the great use of color with the sepia tones.  And… you don't want to try do match the sepia tones in a paint color.  Your walls will look drab and not warm.

You're trying to hit one of the gold colors in the prints without looking yellow. So, in reality the color is a buckskin color, not a gold/tan color.

I tried out some color choices on the Glidden.com color visualizer web site and I matched up my two choices to go with Anderson photos.  Gold: Golden Gate and Red: Rapture.

Another thing to remember… when you are using rich colors such as Golden Gate. A practice board is a good start, but once the entire room is painted… it will be a dramatic change.

Faux Finish with a Woolie.  Use 2 golds.  One gold is painted in full on the wall.  You know… just paint the walls. :)  Then use the original gold paint and a lighter gold (such as: Golden Gate) and pat both colors on with the Woolie.

Although… I have to say, I probably wouldn't do a faux finish in a room with these prints, unless it was very subtle.  I mean VERY subtle… almost not there.

Here is what I would do… I would paint the walls Golden Gate in  eggshell finish. Then I would get some water based polyurethane satin finish and pat the walls with your Woolie. Very pretty, but subtle.  And I would pat the same polyurethane on the red walls as well, just to tie them all together.

Did this answer your question?

Any one have any other suggestions??? Help Bev by leaving a comment.

I got a recent email about choosing a green to use with Kim Anderson Prints.

Here is my reply:

You have to be careful when planning to use specific art. Like Kim Anderson.
She uses just a touch of green in her photos and the colors are very natural.
So… just make sure your wall color is not a cool green… The room definitely should have a warm Natural (as from nature) colorway.

Hope this information is helpful.
