Indiana Jones Theme Bedroom Ideas are all about travel and rustic textures.

This theme will work well for boys… and girls that love Indiana Jones. So what do we need to create this theme for young boys and girls bedrooms?

First… we certainly need to think about the travel that Indiana made for his adventures.

The time frame was certainly not modern day… so keep in mind that 1950′s International travel to obscure countries was a bit more difficult.

Smaller planes, older cars… and often travel was accomplished with animals.

How would you incorporated travel into the theme? How about a large world map? Old luggage for storage. An old car seat as a place to lounge… no bean bags allowed here.

When choosing a headboard or bunk beds… use natural heavy wooden structures. The more banged up the better.

Old crates would be a must as side tables… or toy storage.

Bedding should be in natural colorations… rust, army green or beige – brown. Or bold Zebra Print!

Keep it simple. A safari pattern comforter, sweater knit pillow pillow shams or a hemp bead skirt would be great additions.

Natural wood toned blinds would be a good choice for window coverings. Add a valance made of natural burlap and your on the way to a successful Indian Jones theme.

Now let’s add some accessories.

Leather Shade Floor Lamp

How about a desk lamp with a leather shade?

And of course… head out to your local feed and tack store and pick up a rope. I would glue the rope into its natural coiled shape… which would keep accidents from happening.

Indiana Jones Leather Whip 6ft

If you are really brave… look for an Indian Jones type whip! This would be very cool hanging from a rustic hook.

Did you know you can purchase an Indiana Jones Men’s Wool Felt Fedora? Your bedroom redesign will not be complete without one.

You could add fake vines, snakes and rocks to the rooms theme… but these are just dust collectors and look a bit too kitschy.

Okay… we need to choose a wall color.

If you are just going to be painting the room with one color… go for a mid tan. Not too light and defiantly not too dark. The wood furnishings in the room need to contrast with the wall color not blend.

If your going for a faux painting wall treatment… you have several good choices. A Faux Leather paint treatment is perfect… even if you only have it on one wall.

Another faux finish that would be perfect is one that uses a lighter beige over a dark brown base color… It is what I call a frosted technique that I have used in Tuscan Style Faux Painting.

So… I’ve covered walls, furniture and accessories. Now what about the ceiling in your new Indiana Jones Theme Bedroom? Paint it pale sky blue… it will look great with the brown tones on the walls… and it gives an feeling of being outdoors.

for a boy??? are you serious? why must this be gender specific? don’t you think there are girls in this world who would enjoy this? think about it. open your mind.

What an incredibly neat idea! And honestly, will Indy really ever go out of style?

I didn’t see it mentioned, but instead of going with the kitschy snakes and vines idea, it might be possible to add a few “artifacts” (interesting carved pieces or masks) for a bit of a World look. A few doo-dads from Pier One or an import shop (and if it’s a boy’s room, the probably creepier the more beloved). Fantastic concept!

Great ideas! My 6 year old boy will love the burlap curtian idea! I am going to make a canopy over his bed out of corrigated sheet metal painted like it is old and rusted. Then I’ll probably hang some old style lanterns from underneath. If I paint the ceiling blue, it should give the feeling of sleeping in a shack out side! Thanks for all the great stylish tips! Kids rooms do NOT have to be tacky, and your design suggestions are perfect!
