I recently had this question about how to get rust off metal:
Just wondered if you have ever tried to get a large amount of rust off metal.
We have converted our old oak stereo cabinet into a wine cabinet, with doors taken off and a wine cooler put into the middle.
The speaker area we will take the spindles off, and place wooden wine racks attached in the space to hold wine bottles.
This is a re-use for a stereo cabinet that is out of style, but that my father made for me and I want to keep.
We have an old whiskey still that my great-grandfather used back in prohibition days, and wish to set it on top of the new wine cabinet as a conversation piece only (!) but it is very rusty.
My husband will try naval jelly, but I wondered if you had other suggestions that might work better.
I will need to paint the part that is most rusty with some sort of metal paint that will resemble dark colored metal. The copper coils I think we can clean with copper polish.
What a great project! I love it… love it… love it.
On the areas that you cannot clean up with copper polish you can paint them with metal paint and then age them if you need to. This Metal Paint can be aged with an activator quickly and it's so easy!
Here is a great answer to How To Get Rust Off Metal.
