How Do I Tone Down Apple Green Paint Color

by THAT Painter Lady on Friday, February 15, 2008

Questions From Readers Hi

I painted my bedroom in a Laura Ashley color LA917 from Lowes (its a shade of apple green),it didn't look that bright in the store but it is bright & not a relaxing color for a bedroom. I want to tone it down by either using the Lime Wash or Glaze from Lowes (whichever is easier). Which would you recommend?

Thanks A lot!

Hi Jibbe,

I looked at the color and it seems to be a soft green. If you painted all the walls they will reflect each other and intensify the color.

I would wash over the walls – rag or sponge or my favorite… with a Woolie pad. Try mixing a soft off white paint (not too yellow, like navajo white) with Faux Glaze… about 1 part paint to 5 parts glaze and add 1 part water if it feels like it drags when applying to the wall.

The walls must NOT have been painted with flat paint. This may take more than one pass on the walls. It may look like some child painted the walls with just one layer of faux glazing. 2 or 3 layers will look beautiful.

Faux painting goes fast.
