How Do I Change The Color Of Paint? Change Butterscotch to Kahki

by THAT Painter Lady on Tuesday, February 5, 2008

Questions From Readers I painted my 2 story family room textured walls with what I thought was a rich looking golden kahki color in an eggshell finish. What I got was a color that looks like butterscotch. What can I do to make the walls look like a rich golden khaki color?

Leslie

Hi Leslie:

To change a butterscotch color which is a golden yellow… to the color you want which is a kahki color somewhat golden… you have the golden part down already.

The color of khaki is considered a dusty earth color. Usually a greenish tan or dirty green color.

That said… not knowing exactly the color you are going for… I would suggest ragging or color washing the wall with a pale khaki color. The golden color underneath will add a golden glow to this color wash.

Hope this was helpful… Debra THAT Painter Lady

How do I change my light gold color to a butterscotch?

Thanks Teresa

Hi Teresa

Butterscotch is an Amber color that is derived from orange. As is the Gold color. What you say is a light gold color… may be that it is too pale and too yellow.

So if you deepen the color with an amber color over the pale gold… you will end up with a butterscotch color.

Color wash the walls with a very, very thin glaze of an amber color. This will take more than one layer. Wash on… let dry… wash on… let dry… wash on… etc.
