The Plaster Has Cracked Under My Faux Painting

I have a large foyer with faux painted walls.  All the so. cal. rains have caused a section of about 15 inches to create a seam/crack (it's a clean break)on the faux painted wall.  Is there any way to glue this back down as it is thick paint job?  Or do I need to have a painter come in and scrape it off and try to match the job that is covering the walls.  Please advise.  Thanks. Dana

Hi Dana,.

Ouch… what a problem

First… you probably won't be able to just glue the paint back down. The crack is probably from under the paint. You may have some water damage under the paint. Sometimes we can glue down wallpaper, but paint isn't as forgiving in this respect.

My advise would be to get a painter out and have them scrape away any damaged areas… and see what is underneath. If it is damage that is caused by something other than just damp air… then you will need repairs on the wall.

The bad news is the entire area will have to be repainted with the faux painting treatment. It is almost impossible to just patch an area and have it match.

The good news…. well maybe good news… the damage to your faux painting may be covered under your home insurance.

Hope this was helpful.
