children space decoratingHas your child outgrown their current bedroom “theme”? Time to change it from “Nursery” style to “big kid” style?

Don’t let the economy keep you from refreshing your home and revitalizing your child’s room!

Here are some great tips on how to make your child’s room fun to be in again and not break the bank doing it!

When starting any project where a child is concerned, it’s best if you get them involved!

Remember – this is their room, and you not only want the space to reflect just who they are and what they love but you want them to LOVE being in there! So grab a pen (or a crayon will do) and some paper and sit with your child and brain storm.

Think about their hobbies and other things they enjoy. Not just the latest fad, those pass or are outgrown. Trust me…you’ll both come up with lots of options and have fun doing it! Once you have a good list…narrow it down. And now…the fun begins:

1. When decorating a child’s room, choose the wall color carefully. It is important that you pick a color that matches the theme that you have chosen to make sure that everything complements and looks like they belong together.

2. If you want to add a splash of color to a child’s room, but you don’t want to repaint the whole room you can do two different things.

  • One – paint an accent wall. Generally that’d be the wall behind the bed.
  • Or..two – if you don’t want to paint (and really, who wouldn’t want to do that?!), then simply add a solid colored area rug. BAM! A new splash of color.

3. We all know curtains can be expensive, why not get a blind instead? Not enough pizazz? Hang a sheer panel in front of it. Too, you can add some color to that sheer panel (so that it further complements the child’s room) by painting it with fabric paints (you could even let your child do it themselves).

4. Great way to add some pizzaz…purchase a new light or lampshade to match the theme! This is such an easy and great way of adding a new look to your child’s room, as well as being a cost effective way of reducing the light they use in their room.

Make it even better and just buy a plain lampshade and then get some acrylic paints and paint it to match the new theme! Custom!!! Or let your child decorate it themselves. Fun!!  Ribbon Lamp

5. Want to have bedding that will compliment your child’s bedroom, but can’t afford a whole new bedding sets?

Try buying some flat sheets (they only cost a few dollars and come in a wide range of colors) and can easily be used for duvet covers by being sewn together!

Not only can you use them to make duvet covers, I’ve used them for simple curtains and pillow cases which will bring the décor of the room all together. An easy and inexpensive way to make it look like an expensive designer room!!!

6. Why not personalize something for their walls? You could take photographs of them, the family, their pets, their friends and turn it all into a collage. Or you can paint their favorite saying around the room as a border at the top of the wall or just below chin level.

7. Another great way of making their room their own, and not break the bank in the process, is to create a comfort zone.

All you need are some big pillows, or a comfy/fun chair. Even an inflatable one will do! But make sure that it is something your child will enjoy sitting on and relaxing in.

Also, as they will use this area for reading, then you will need to place some books close by. Do this by putting some small shelves or some plastic boxes on the side in the area and putting their books in them. My favorite…either make or buy some throw pillows (or you can use real bed pillows but make some fun covers for them), you’ll need about 8 of them to make a big fluffy pile/area. Buy a plastic or wood shelf that is about 8 to 10 inches tall.

Even easier…buy one of those pop up tubes…like you see on dog shows that the dogs have to run through? One of those…. Throw in 3 or 4 pillows, and an inexpensive “lantern” (find a cute little Coleman brand one in your box store’s camping gear area).

Your child will LOVE the cave/tunnel/ private space and you can easily smoosh it all back together and put it in the closet out of the way if you need to. They’ll like to even sleep in there once in a while like a camp out!

That’s it. Easy breezy. Now go have fun decorating your child’s room on a budget!

Kids bedding are an important factor of a child’s bedroom decor. It is not only a kids bedding, but it is actually a reflection of your child’s character and passion.I remember when I was looking for my children bedding. I preferred on their favorite cartoon. Like for my son I chose his favorite cartoon Bob the builder and for my daughter Disney Princess. Which I select from charactercomforts.co.uk . That make them to sleep early and which effects on their all day.
