We are going to be using a children's theme in our barn when the kids come to visit the ponies. My volunteers and I are going to be doing a combination of freehand and stenciling. :) There are so many wonderful stencil ideas out there.

Hi,
I wanted to say that drawing is not something that always comes easily - save for the very most gifted artists like Rafael and Leonardo, and a few others.

But there are some who rather than sticking to details and technicalities, just draw for the love and exuberance of it: take a look at L S Lowry, whose work throbs with excitement and feeling and yet he is known as “the Matchstick Artist” not because he couldn't - but didn't. He had found a style he liked, enjoyed and above all, DID.

Not being able to draw is perhaps an advantage: in trying to draw, you will find things that you like doing, and feel happy with. Draw them with your son at the same time, get the paints out and cover the table with rolls of paper and just see what happens to the blank spaces!

We had a frieze of hand-prints on the children's wall, some lower and some higher (!) it was great fun, colourful, and not a drawing in sight. Why? Not because I couldn't - I hadn't thought of it!!

Well done for coming up with the idea, and for getting on with it. That, in reality, is the hardest part of all.

Take a spice of inspiration from these:

I love their work, and there is more if you look, especially the St Ives (Tate Gallery, Cornwall).

I think you will have the time of your life, and with it a time to remember for ever. Gemma

I use a projector to put the image on the wall. Then all I have to do is trace it and fill in the lines. I can change the size just by moving the projector closer to the wall or farther away.

Another way to do murals if you aren't very talented in the drawing department is to find a picture that you want to use and do a carbon copy, just color with pencil or chalk and then trace the front of the image on the wall and the chalk or pencil will show up on the wall.
