This is such a cute boys bedroom mural with wallies idea! A Newsletter Subscriber Writes in:
I am getting ready to transform my son’s room from Pooh into a “Construction zone.” I bought Wallies with a dump truck, cement truck, and one other truck.
There is a slight angle (about 18″) that connects the ceiling to the main walls. I wanted to use the slanted part of the wall as a structural “border” for the room.
So, I planned on painting the ceiling a pale, pale blue, coming down onto the slanted part of the wall.
I thought that I would try to paint a road, mound of dirt, some grass and clouds onto the 18″ strip that goes the length of the walls and then add the Wallies.
The problem? I can’t even draw stick people!
Assuming that trucks and construction would be a popular theme, I thought for sure that I could purchase some sort of stencil, but have not been able to find one.
One lady that I talked to was trying to convince me that it was SO EASY to draw them freehand. I can’t find any instructions on how to do it. Is there a way to make it “fool proof??” Heather
Simple Construction Mural
The best way to start any painting project is to gather a few pictures from the internet to use as reference. Here is a fairly simple construction mural that I came across onĀ www.DayDreamMurals.com Here is a direct link to the picture: Boys Bedroom Mural
The road can be very simple. It will look like a road as long as you have the broken lines going down the center. Mounds of dirt are simple too, just use brown paint – copy how they look in the picture. You may want to add a few simple trees too, in the background.
You will do fine. Maybe you can try it first on a piece of poster board, before attempting your boys wall mural on the walls. When you don’t have any experience with something, it is a good idea to practice first.

Note From Debra:
We did a mural recently with Bob the Builder Jumbo Wall Stick-ups… and we wanted it to be very primitive and coloring book style.
This should give you some ideas about how easy it can be to paint a mural with roads, hills, trees and clouds.
And yes… we did paint the bi-fold closet doors to look like and old garage door. The fake wood technique is from the Wood Grain Video.
I hope this is helpful…

Another way to do murals if you aren’t very talented in the drawing department is to find a picture that you want to use and do a carbon copy, just color with pencil or chalk and then trace the front of the image on the wall and the chalk or pencil will show up on the wall.
Thanks for the idea Natasha! ~DEBRA
